In the first chapter, read carefully about the weeds along the path to the prison door and the rosebush.  It's only a couple of pages long.

In the chapter about Hester's home after leaving prison, catch what it says about the soil.

In the two scenes that take place in the forest, watch for sunlight vs. shadow.

What events take place in the forest?  One is just talked about (hint:  the governor's sister).
