I have not read The Scarlet Letter, but there are a number of on line study guides, and quite a few other resources on the Internet that can help you with this novel.  Most of them have good information.  Have a look at these sites, and you should get some help with your work.  If you do a search here in the Yahoo Answers search window you will find additional help because hundreds of questions have been asked here about The Scarlet Letter.

  2. In the first chapter, read carefully about the weeds along the path to the prison door and the rosebush.  It's only a couple of pages long.

    In the chapter about Hester's home after leaving prison, catch what it says about the soil.

    In the two scenes that take place in the forest, watch for sunlight vs. shadow.

    What events take place in the forest?  One is just talked about (hint:  the governor's sister).

  3. Well, if you think of Pearl's name itself, it symbolizes her purity.
