Whenever i get on the tredmill to run, I'm full of motivation to move, but when i get past the one mile mark, I usually lose all the motivation and start thinking of quitting because of bordem, etc. I can run 5+ miles, its just that I don't feel like it when I run.

Help?!

Thanks!

  1. I'm the same way...but it's that feeling after the run that keeps me going.  Try signing up for a 5k or doing a treadmill interval workout.  Mix it up.  Train for a race.  This might just give you a fresh inspiration.  Check out the link below for some more tips.  Good luck!

  2. Get a running mate!

  3. I can see why you can lose your motivation to run on a treadmill.   Try running outside, or in trails, that should  stimulate you to keep going.  Join a running club.  It is loads of fun, we learn from each other and usually it is quite social.  Often groups go out for breakfast or coffee after a club run.

Good luck and keep running :)

  4. Where do you run your 5+ miles?  Outside?  Any reason for runnng on the treadmill?

Well, they don't call a boring job a treadmill for nothing.  You are, by definition, going nowhere fast.

Other suggestions have been good.  Listen to music, make your own soundtrack, especially timed so that it pumps you up when you hit that mile mark.

Try doing some intervals on the treadmill rather than just setting the pace and going.  Change is interesting.

And try visualizing one of your outdoor runs.  It may sound hokay, but it really works.  Forget what you see in front of you.  Imagine what you want to see.  Forest trail.  Street.  Track.  Running with your favorite athlete (or favorite supermodel).  Whatever gets you going.

I've done all of those.  And they work.

  5. Try jumping rope.  Instead of wanting to quit because you're bored, you will want to quit because it keeps getting caught on your God damned feet!  I actually yelled at my jump rope today.  Out loud.  I was outside.

And, jumping rope is easier on your knees than running.

  6. i like to run too on the thredmill and i always find myself getting bored and start thinking about other stuff i need to get done...

have you tried listening to music? download some fast motivation songs. that always gets me motivated to keep going.

  7. Try wearing headphones with your favorite, motivating music, or try running outdoors.  Also, you can try using a stimulant like HydroxyCut Hardcore that will boost your energy before workouts.

  8. You could listen to something interesting while running and tell yourself you wont stop untill it ends.
