Moto GP Mid Season Analysis: Robert Kubica
As the Renault driver, Robert Kubica, heads for the eleventh race of the season he seems to be quite hopeful and optimistic. The next race of the Formula One motorcade is scheduled to take place this weekend at Hockenheim, Germany after an interval of a year. Kubica enters the race standing at seventh place in the Drivers’ Standings with the shadow of a poor race behind him earlier this month.
The season started off pretty good for the driver, however as the rounds kept unfolding he was not able to retain the purple patch consistently.
The Italian deriver, who had been able to make his mark as a tough competitor at the race arena in a very short period of time, currently stands at the seventh place in the Drivers’ Standings with eighty three points bagged so far, one place behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes GP who has collected ninety points.
Kubica seems determined and aggressive when it comes to snatching points and getting podiums but last year he had an uncompetitive BMW Sauber, while this year luck had not been much on his side.
He signed the contract to enter Renault’s rendezvous last October after having a poor year with Sauber. Initially he seemed determined to give a tough competition however he has had a very jittery phase all through the first half of the season.
At the first race of the season he came out without being able to bag a single point as he started the season opener, Bahrain Grand Prix, from ninth place on the grid and was scarcely able to end at eleventh place.
However, the next race in Australia, brought him luck as well as eighteen points as he finished at second place after having started the race from ninth grid position. The good luck chased him as the Formula One caravan moved to its next destination, Malaysia for the third round of the season and he ended at forth place following another flawless race in China later the same month where he started the race from eighth place and was able to end it at fifth position.
This handed him another ten points, thus he entered the Spanish Grand Prix with forty points under his belt.
There he grabbed only another four points as he ended at eighth place. The next race of the calendar was the held at the Monaco Circuit, where good luck struck him once again as he was able to put up a great show in the qualifying session and started the race at second place and wrapped it up at third place; his points tally was as high as fifty nine. As the cars left the Turkish Grand Prix, Kubica had an addition of eight points making a total of sixty seven points.
Next race of the season was at Montreal, the Canadian Grand Prix, where he ended at seventh place starting the race from eighth place. This was followed by the European Grand Prix where he tried his best to finish at the podium, but was not able to, however he ended at fifth place.
Earlier this month as the teams showcased a nail biting racing show at Silverstone, Kubica was unfortunate to retire from the race. He had a good start and seemed promising but later he was overtaken by Fernando Alonso of Ferrari and then faced a driveshaft failure at the rear of his car, following which he had to retire from the race.
Now, as the first ever Polish driver in the Formula One heads towards the German Grand Prix his fans as well as the team hopes to see him back in the form and spirit that was expected to be seen by him earlier this season.
