MotoGP 2012 season could see 11 new teams participating in the sport – MotoGP news
MotoGP has revealed that 11 new teams might be participating with 16 riders in the 2012 season, provided they submit their security deposits by the deadline of June 3, 2011.
On April 30, 2011, the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM) announced that 13 teams with 21 riders were selected form 16 teams after the first round of evaluation. Those teams were further provided by the terms and conditions required to get in the
2012 MotoGP season. After shortlisting the teams, they were invited to reassure their interest in next season’s campaign and submit comprehensive details about their plans for participation to International Road-Racing Teams Association (IRTA). The deadline
to submit the details was May 14, 2011- a day before the race at Le Mans.
During the Monster Energy Grand Prix de France, IRTA and Dorna reviewed the applications submitted with details for further short listing. Following the procedure, 11 teams comprising of 16 riders have been invited for the next round of selection. The teams
have a deadline of June 3 to deposit a security amount with IRTA, just before the Grand Prix at the Catalunya circuit.
At the fifth round of the 2011 MotoGP season in Catalunya, IRTA and Dorna will finally review and decide which team will be offered the contract for participating in the 2012 season. Also considering the Claiming Rules Team category, participants will have
to earn an approval on their applications by Grand Prix Commission members. Soon after the Grand Prix of Catalunya, the final list consisting of chosen teams will be revealed to the public.
In order to make the next season more interesting, Dorna and IRTA have brought some new regulations for the MotoGP. The 1000cc prototypes will make a return after three seasons of 800cc races. The CRTs will have a number of advantages over the Motorcycle
Sports Manufacturers’ Association (MSMA) teams. The changes include doubling the number of engines allowed and increasing fuel capacity to 24 litres for the races. The relaxations will give them an extra edge over the present MSMA teams.
