MotoGP: FIAT Yamaha Drivers’ Positions after Sachsenring
The German Grand Prix was held in Sachsenring, on 18th of July, resulted very well for the Drivers Championships. Previously, FIAT Yamaha driver and the defending champion, Valentino Rossi, missed four races because of a broken leg. However, after a very short period, Rossi decided to come back, despite his rehabilitation process.
On the other hand, in the absence of Rossi, his teammate Jorge Lorenzo had a perfect run in the races. He came second in the first race, while winning the next three races in a row. This dream run also gave the Spaniard a high lead at the top of the table. However, Rossi, who was second in the championships before the crash, went down to the fifth position in the table.
The race in Germany promised to be very interesting, as Rossi was staging an early comeback, while Lorenzo had his fourth pole in a row. Except for the first practice session, Jorge Lorenzo showed real pace throughout the weekend. Therefore, he was being tipped for a win in Germany, as well. However, after a very tough race with the other Spaniard, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo came second in the race. In addition, Valentino Rossi beat all odds and fought well for the third place. In the end, he had to be content with a fourth place, which was again good enough for the returning Italian.
The real star of the weekend was, without a doubt, Valentino Rossi. The Italian was still struggling after his injury, while his shoulder has been troubling him throughout the season as well. However, during the qualifying round, Rossi only made it to the second row of the grid, however, after an accident during the race, the red flag was shown and the race was restarted. This time, Rossi had to move to the back of the grid, as he failed to make it to the pit lane within the five minutes of the flag. However, within a short time, after the restart, Rossi was again in the top five drivers, showing a lot of pace and composure. The race proved to be exceptional for the rider, as he was beaten to the pole only on the last turn of the race. Throughout the 21 laps, he was constantly challenging Casey Stoner for the third position, and showed no signs of fatigue and pressure.
After the race, Valentino Rossi was ecstatic, especially after such a powerful performance. He said that he would need more time before actually challenging for the top position; however, he was delighted that his injury did not trouble him a lot. For the next race in Laguna, Rossi said that he would be trying to do even better. Rossi’s manager, Davide Brivio was also excited, especially because there were only minimal chances for his return. However, he was happy for his decision, of allowing the Italian to race despite his injury problems. The whole admiration for the big performance is reserved for the Italian, who worked very hard during his six weeks away from the track.
Jorge Lorenzo, the other FIAT Yamaha driver had a very good weekend at Sachsenring, as well. Although he finished second, he did maintain his record of keeping at least a second place in every race, this season. Although, his lead has been cut short by five points, but Dani Pedrosa still has a lot of ground to cover. Therefore, after the race, Lorenzo showed his contentment with the result. He was happy enough for a second place because this time he is trying to be consistent, unlike the previous seasons, where he used to crash more than often.
The only thing worrying Lorenzo at the moment would be the pace shown by Dani Pedrosa throughout the race. Therefore, right now he would really be thinking about maintaining his record, while avoiding any unfavourable outcomes, in the remaining races of the season.
