MotoGP: Lorenzo extends World Championship lead as he wins his third consecutive race at the Catalunya MotoGP in Barcelona
Spanish rider Jorge Lorenzo continued his dominance in Motogp by winning his 3rd successive race of the season at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona.
His closest rival Dani Pedrosa once again could not match Lorenzo and could only manage 2nd place, Casey Stoner meanwhile finished only 3rd. there was a tough dual between Stoner and Pedrosa for the 2nd place and after number of errors in the race both did well to get 2nd and 3rd spot.
Andrea Dovizioso also made mistakes but his errors cost him dearly and lost the 2nd spot, finally ended in 4th.
Lorenzo is now 52 points clear at the championship table and looks set to remain on top.
Danni Pedrosa although had a quick start to the race, but turned late on the first corner, and drove his bike wide dropping down to 10th, while Lorenzo, Dovizioso and Stoner moved ahead.
Lorenzo went past Dovizioso in the initial stages of the race, and the 2 of them in their own little battle left the chasing pack well behind.
Casey stoner did not learn from the mistake that Pedrosa made and dropped back after going too fast on the first corner, but he did well to make his way back up the field and was in contention for 3rd spot.
As soon as Dovizioso was out of the race following his crash, it was down to Pedrosa and Stoner to battle it out for the 2nd place.
After the race, Lorenzo said that it was a near perfect race for him and he was delighted to have won 3rd race on the trot.
Lorenzo said that Andrea was fast approaching him and keeping him on his toes, but as soon as he crashed out, Lorenzo knew the race was for him to lose from then on.
The home rider added that he always wanted to win on the home circuit and it was a dream come true for him.
Pedrosa meanwhile said that his mistake at the start of the race was something that really made the race difficult for him.
Pedrosa added that when he tried to hit the brakes, they did not take effect. He said that he had to pump numerous times before the brakes actually took effect. So he had to take it slow then and but was determined to make his way up.
Pedrosa added that Lorenzo was in his elements and after the brake incident; it became even harder for him to catch up. Nevertheless, he was happy to have got the 2nd spot in the end.
Casey Stoner was also pleased to have finished in a good enough position after his mistakes in the race, because at one stage it was looking like his mistakes will cost him in the end.
The Australian said that the track made it difficult to overtake and he was having problems with his brakes, so a 3rd spot was not bad in the end.
In the Moto2 race category, Yuki Takahashi produced the most exiting incidents of the day,
After a crash at the first corner that saw 9 riders crash out, and Carmelo Morales while moving into the home straight flew into the wall, when he nudged the back wheel of the bike in front. He was lucky to have escaped with minor injuries (Carmelo was filling in for Axel Pons who was injured before the race).
While in the 125cc race, Bradley Smith from Great Britain came on top in a battle between 3 riders for second place behind Marc Marquez, Smith beat Pol Espargaro and Nico Terol, to get the 2nd place on podium.
