MotoGP: Rossi returns from Injury to race in German GP
The greatest ever rider to bike in Moto GP has given further evidence of his steely determination, focus, and, burning ambition as he makes a dramatic return to the track barely six weeks after breaking his leg in a horrific crash that initially sidelined him for at least three months.
Despite the setback Valentino Rossi worked wonderfully well on his fitness to roar back to action for the German GP. He got a clean sheet from a panel of doctors who were amazed at the remarkable recovery by the Italian.
His Yamaha team announced on Thursday that their star biker was ready for top class action again starting with this weekend’s MotoGP in Germany.
The decision was made when the 31-year-old was examined by circuit Chief Medical Officer Huber Fischer at the Sachsenring. He declared Rossi was fit and raring to go for the next race of the season in which he has dropped significantly in the rankings due to his ill timed injury.
Rossi suffered the injury during a practice session for last month's Italian Grand Prix, where his home fans were eager to see their champion in action and winning yet another crown.
Since the accident Rossi has missed four races and has dropped to seventh in the standings that are led by, fellow European Spain’s, Jorge Lorenzo, who is also his team mate at Yamaha.
Rossi’s return has once again heightened the interest in the season and he was applauded by the media upon his entrance at a press conference. A visibly elated Rossi thanked journalists and fans of the sport for their support and affection. He explained how it spurred him on as he made his dramatic recovery in real quick time.
He claimed that he had originally targeted the San Marino race at Misano in September, yet the remarkable rate of his recovery coupled with his resolve and determination meant that he was ready ahead of time.
He added that after the first two weeks of his injury he had earmarked the race in Brno in the Czech Republic in mid-August as his return.
"After another week we tried to think of the Sachsenring because in the hospital the surgery was perfect, the doctor made a great job and put a long pin in the tibia and the tibia is very straight, if you see the X-ray it's in a perfect position", he said.
"I feel good, I work a lot on the muscle of all the leg to take power, so for sure I think it will be difficult to make the entire race but I'm in quite good shape for the ride".
On the other hand the fans of Rossi hope that his return sooner than expected pays rich dividends and helps the record nine time World champion stake a claim at this year’s world title also.
For the critics however, the key is how Rossi races in Germany, as he is expected to be a little apprehensive especially when attempting speedy turns which can be dangerous if not taken properly.
Let us hope that the Rossi of old returns to action as according to many he is singlehandedly responsible for raising the profile of the sport that has forever been in the shadow of the more glamorous formula one.
The German GP is yet another test for the greatest rider in the sport, and given his track record few would be betting against him once the race gets underway.
