MotoGP action to stay at Circuit de Catalunya for five more years – MotoGP news
Chief of Dorna Sports SL, Carmelo Ezpeleta and General Director of Circuit de Catalunya, Salvador Servia have renewed the contract for further five years with premier class motorcycle race organisers.
Now the Barcelonan circuit will host the Gran Premi de Catalunya for the next five MotoGP seasons.
The Circuit de Catalunya hosted its debut race in 1992 as the European Grand Prix. Later in 1994, its name was changed to Gran Premi de Catalunya.
Ezpeleta commented about the extension of contract, “I am pleased that the Circuit de Catalunya remains part of the history and the future of MotoGP, providing a modern facility that has for 20 years had a presence in the highest discipline of motorcycle
racing.”
Ezpeleta further stated that the circuit has been hosting premier class races from the day Dorna has organised the MotoGP world championship.
The circuit organisers have provided several facilities and professional crew to handle the races well and also won awards on their superb performance.
Salvador Servia also expressed gratitude for Carmelo Ezpeleta and Dorna group for the five-year extension in the contract. Servia also feels that it will generate more benefits for the people of Spain.
Servia said, “It is a pleasure to approve an agreement that allows an annual race that generates an economic impact of 30,000,000 Euros for the entire area surrounding the Circuit. Now it’s time to work to publicise this agreement within the business and
economic environment of the country in order to maximise its benefits, and share this opportunity on a worldwide scale through its promotion.”
The 2011 Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya attracted more than 81,000 fans and enthusiasts to the premier class event. The spectator count for the whole race weekend shot up to 146,718, which is a very important factor for maximising the revenue. Let’s hope
the circuit continues to attract visitors like this in the years to come.
