MotoGP race directions convoke Marco Simoncelli at Catalunya – MotoGP news
San Carlo Honda Gresini rider Marco Simoncelli has been summoned by the MotoGP race directions at Catalunya at the upcoming weekend to discuss his clash with Dani Pedrosa which took place a few weeks ago at Le Mans.
The MotoGP officials announced their statement to the press which said, “The Race Direction will call Italian rider Marco Simoncelli during the Catalunya Grand Prix this week, to further discuss the incident during the MotoGP race at the French Grand Prix
in Le Mans.”
The race directions have called Simoncelli for a detailed discussion about the accident. After the meeting, it will be decided whether Simoncelli should be charged further or the penalty was adequate for his act.
The incident occurred when both riders were engaged in a fight for second position during the race. Marco Simoncelli was hanging close on the tail of Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa, who was running for the second spot in the race. With continuing pursuit,
Simoncelli tried to pass Pedrosa from the inside line and was successful in the last corner of the circuit.
While exiting the last corner into the front straight, Pedrosa was able to regain the lead over the stretch. Pedrosa kept his left inside tight to prevent any overtake by the fellow rider. The Spaniard was safe from inside but Marco Simoncelli made his attempt
from outside.
With late and hard braking technique to enter the first corner of the circuit, Marco Simoncelli closed over Pedrosa and entered the corner compressing the margin for the Spaniard. Eventually, the Italian came so close that he crossed the curve line of the
Spanish rider and with no room, Pedrosa ran into the rear end of Simoncelli.
The harsh overtaking move made Pedrosa to fall severely and break his right collarbone. Recently, at the Spanish GP, Pedrosa had already undergone a surgery on his left collarbone to release the pressure on his left subclavian artery. Merely recovering from
his first incision and a painful victory in the Portuguese GP, he got another fracture to his right collarbone. It was also his first ‘did not finish’ status in the 2011 MotoGP season.
Although Simoncelli was charged with a ride-through penalty, it was not enough in Pedrosa’s opinion. Let’s see what lies in the store for Simoncelli at Catalunya.
