International Road-Racing Teams Association (IRTA) and rights holder of MotoGP, Dorna sports finalised the applications and choose 14 teams with 21 riders for the further procedure of the applications.
The teams have a deadline of May 14, 2011 before the fourth round of this season at Le Mans to provide the details of their teams and riders required by the officials.
When the teams clear the set criteria, the next step will be to deposit a security amount before than June 3, 2011. The final list of the approved and ready to participate teams will be revealed at the fifth round of the 2011 season, the Grand Prix of Catalunya.
Only two teams interested to join the 2012 MotoGP grid were subject to deadline. The exiting team that are running in the season does not require the application procedure to follow on their next season’s campaign. The 14 teams will participate under the
section of Claiming Rules Team (CRT) rules and regulations. The 2012 season is also due to reintroduce the 1000cc displacement engines in premier class.
Claiming Rules Team’s entries are subject to different rules as compared to the present MotoGP teams which entered the class with Motorcycle Sports Manufacturer’s Association (MSMA) membership.
The prominent regulation relaxations are more numbers of engines as MSMA teams are allowed with six engines for a complete season, whereas CRTs will have 12 engines for it. Another relaxation is provided in fuel capacity of 24 litres for CRTs and only 21
litres for MSMA teams. The 2012 regulations also allow an MSMA team to purchase an engine from CRT but after the race event for a fixed amount that is 20,000 Euros, which includes engine, gear and transmission. For engine only, the amount allowed is 15,000
Euros.
The new team considered for the next round of the application process proposes about 21 riders, which will significantly increase the size of the 2012 MotoGP grid.
Since 2007, the premier class race has seen regular manufacturers’ teams competing in the event, which will be totally different in the next season.
