So I was at a motocross event to pick something up a few weeks ago, and i thought it was really cool. Now these last few weeks i have been wanting to actaully start riding one.

Whats the first thing i do?

Im 15 years old

I can ride a regular bike, although it really has nothing like it i am guessing since it doesnt use gas lol. But like i snowboard and watch FMX and what not. So i know some limited knowledge, and used to "exteme sports"

so, what so i need to know, and what do i first need to do to start riding?

  1. Buy a helmet, a thick jersey, chest protector, riding pants, boots and oh yes, goggles and gloves.  All of which are designed for motorcycle riding and racing.

Then buy yourself a Honda XR200 off eBay for about $1000.  Ride it for a few months and get the hang of riding.

Then buy a real race bike.  Get between a 1995 to 2000 year model Honda CR125, Suzuki RM125 Kawasaki KX125 or yamaha YZ125 off eBay for between $750 to $1500.  Ride it for a few months and then you'll know if you want to spend any real money on the sport.

And trust me, you can spend a fortune racing MX.

  2. get a bike

  3. buy a bike, but dont just buy a bike, buy all the safty gear that goes along with it. Buy the helmet, pants boots and all the goodies. Plan to spend near 800 bucks for all the riding gear.

Then find some buddies, and start learning how to ride. With basic skills, anyone can learn fairly quickly....

Be careful at first, and dont be one of those kids who will hit a 40 foot double the first time they ride. Go riding, learn how the bike shifts, acts in a turn, how it accelerates, brakes, and all the stuff you need to learn to get to know your machine. When you feel comfortable with the bike, usually after a few rides, learn jumping. The bike will react different in the air. Start on small jumps. Perferrably a table top. Learn slowly. Those top pros did not learn over night. they have tons of hours on a bike.....REMEMBER THAT!!!!!

take it easy, and in time, you will be riding pretty good. And always remember to wear your gear and have fun!!!!!!!

  4. 1st Buy a helmet then for your first bike buy a razor electric dirt bike then move on trust me that was MY first bike and now i am proudly sponsord by 16 different companies.

  5. Before you start thinking you can get a dirt bike and go out start jumping.....Don't buy a dirt bike for that reason.Because, you will end up in the hospital or worse. I'm a freestyle rider for 6yrs,before that i raced motocross for 12yrs. The best advice i can give you is....If your really serious about dirt bikes. Well, get all your safety gear and your dirt bike and find someone that is a experienced rider and have them show you all the fundamentals and the mechanics of riding and then start practicing on all different types of terrains and then move up to just practicing on motocross tracks(no racing). When you feel totally comfortable about your riding, then go out and start racing and keep freestyle riding out of head for the moment. Because you need to learn how to look at a jump or a berm and know what speed and gear you need be in to properly execute it. Trust me you are not going to learn everything over night so don't rush it. But, if that's all you want do is learn how to ride a dirt bike so you can do freestyle, then you not going to last long.....You can do research on all freestyle riders from the "pro's to the newbies" that all have motocross racing backgrounds.
