  1. Late starters still have a chance, making pro is not as hard as proving your self as a pro. Getting on a good team at the pro level means being a very consistant front runner. You see tons of local pros struggling at the national level. I think that since MX & Supercross teams have short term contracts it is very possible for a older rider to get a good ride.

  2. The problem with wanting to become a pro rider is that there are thousands of other teenagers with exactly the same dream.  The thing with most of those is the fact that they have started racing at an early age and in most cases have families who have had an interest in the sport themselves.  With racing bikes you not only have to be a good rider but you have to have your bike set up so it can be ridden well and make it so you are a good rider.  Learning the best setup for your bike and what tyres to run on what type of conditions is something that cannot be learnt overnight and you have to have willing parents prepared to spend evey chance they get working on the bike as it needs prepping for every race, cleaning after every race.  The money to run a race bike and pay the entry fees is also more than most families can afford.

I am not saying it is impossible but just painting a realistic picture for you as my son is on the same trip trying to work towards that pro ride.  He lives, breathes and eats motocross and supercross.  He has been racing since he was 4 and he is very good, but whether he will make it as a pro has just way to many if's against it.  One of the biggest if's in racing is luck.  If I had a dollar for every time things were going just great and it looked like he was unbeatable only to have something go wrong which was no fault of his own, like someone out of control who just has to take another rider out, which just happens to be him.

So becoming pro in motocross is much like trying to win the lottery.  Only a couple of lucky ones make it, but it still doesn't mean you cannot try.  It just means that you have to want it so bad that nothing will stop you.

Jeremy Mcgrath was a late starter and it worked for him but trying to win against factory riders when you are not one with all the support is really quite tough.

If your good enough to make the team..its a great start...

Dont EVER let anyone tell you...you cant do it....

    You can make it happen!!!!!

    The pro's have..2 hands 2 feet and a heart beat...so do you....

  4. Doesn't matter if you start at 4 or 14, if you have the natural talent and desire you have as good of a chance as anyone else. I helped a kid a while back set up his sag at the track and got to talking to him and his dad. This kid was 13 and it was his first year racing. He is smoking everyone on the track, most of his competitors have been racing since they were 5. He was nailing a 90 foot triple that makes me cringe on a 250F.
