Simple and short, but it's bugging me

What exactly is a "factory rider" in motocross?

What makes them different from any other rider? (I think it's the gear tey wear to match te bike, so they look like the professionals, is it??)

  1. First, a FACTORY RIDER is on a completely different racing level than the club racer. To get there most have had a childhood filled with riding and developed a skill level much more acute than the weekend warrior. Not to mention the being natural.

A FACTORY RIDE means training when, where and how they want you to, hours, weeks months of testing and set up, training you to say what they want you to say about them (if you get close to the podium), and your sponsors. It will become work, the kind you are the most passionate about.

Anyone can look like they know what they are doing and look professional; until the throttle is opened!

  2. Rough / Y  & steven hit that one on the nail.

    Just delete the first answer.

  3. HAHAHAHA. Wow the first guy has it soooo wrong. No factory rider means the factory (Honda) sponsers them

  4. As Wiggy has already said Rough and Steve have the correct answer on this.

Being a factory rider is what nearly every teenage motocross rider aims for.  But once you are one they the team you ride for pretty much owns you.  You are told what events you are entered in.  What gear you can wear, what oils are in the bike etc.

  5. They ride for a team like Yamaha.. Honda..Kawasaki..

They get to ride a factory bike....They dont own it..Like Yamaha corp...supplys the bike and pays them.

  6. a factory rider rides for the manafacture direct and has accsess to one off parts that are not availible to buy and that are usually made just for the rider .

  7. They ride for the corporation. They dont have to worry about bringing their own bike to competition. They ride out of the factory rig, have their own factory mechanics, and get paid as well.

  8. You have factory riders that have full sponsorship from a company like Honda, Yamaha, etc. You have support riders which get some help from the factories, but not as much as the full factory guys, and you have privateers that basically pay their own way with some help from companies like Serious Racing, BTO, etc. A couple big advantages the full factory rider has is cream of the crop team managers, trainers, mechanics, etc. and factory suspension (which is a huge advantage).

  9. it means they use a standard factory produced bike as opposed to a works rider who will use a special customised bike
