  1. To start pro racing dude, I regret to tell you but you are about 8 years to late.

The above comments are spot on. Any of the bikes listed there will be great for you, but to be in the pro racing circuit, by your age, you will normally have full factory support in the jnr leagues.

I hope you prove me wrong young man.

Good luck, train hard and always go for the win.

    Wiggysan.

  2. My brother races, so I know a little about this. It depends how tall you are really. At 12, probably an 85 cc two stroke is what you want. Now the best brands in my opinion are Kawasaki and Yamaha. Suzuki isn't bad either, but it would need a lot of extra parts to get it racing. Kawasaki is the best equipped and has a lot of power. Everyone in our series who is winning owns a Kawasaki, and the parts are easy to find.

  3. Don't let your age play a factor in your decision. Although alot of top riders had some sort of sponsorship earlier in their career, it certainly doesn't mean that you can't be as fast, if not faster if you are determined. I speak from experience from both spectrum's. I am a retired racer and also coached for over 7 years and have seen riders with years of experienced be passed by riders with more determination and focus.

So to answer your question, you'll need a bike, gear, a track to race at, and of coarse, a way to get there. Motorcycle racing requires some pretty competitive machinery so if your parents are supporting your decision, I would check each one out to see which one feels the best. On the track, they will all respond differently however.

When you line up for your first race, don't look down the starting gate at everyone else, only the first turn. And never forget, you're not there to make friends, you're there to win races. Always nice to see a new young talent get their start. Good luck!

  4. Go to your local motorcycle dealer and they will get you started on the right sized bike.  Besides your age, it depends on your body type and experience.

They can also direct you to a motorcycle training center near you that offers dirt bike training, which you DEFINITELY should take in order to start riding safely.  Learning from a friend is a ticket to getting yourself seriously hurt.  What's good about that is you will get to ride a dirt bike during training and then use that to judge what you'd like to be riding.  Some places even have trails and motocross type tracks for the second level of training.  (In Atlanta, Honda has an awesome training center with a huge dirt area and a mile long dirt track through the woods.)  They'll even have most of the gear for you, so you don't have to buy all the equipment before buying your bike.

Glad to hear you're interested!  Motocross is way cool and the most physically demanding exercise on earth.  You're at the perfect age to get into it.

Looking forward to watching you de-throne James Stewart one day (or one of his successors)!  Good luck!

  5. Yamaha makes some really great MX bikes.  I've also heard good things about the Kawasaki KX250F.

In addition to the bike you will need goggles, helmet, jersey, pants, supportive boots and gloves.

    Then you practice, practive, practice.
