Motocross race tips?

starting to race and just need some tips that could help me. Thanks

  1. If you are just starting then find a person who knows what they are doing and take a few lessons.  Once you have been told the right way to ride and position yourself on your bike riding with elbows up and off the seat most of the time, then when you practice make sure that each time you are on the track you ride like you are racing and I don't mean full on completely but making sure that you use the correct technique and don't ride sloppy.  If you slack off when training then your body learns that it is okay to do that and will do the same in a race.  If you only do two laps and stop the same thing will happen in a race and your body will want to stop after two laps.  

    Always look ahead at where you intend to go as looking down or at an object you want to avoid is a sure way to make the bike go that way.  Practice when you can with someone faster and aim to keep up with them and use them to judge speed for jumps.  Heaps of people don't like to ride against better riders as they get discouraged when they leave them for dead but it is the best way to get better at racing.



    Always take the opportunity to walk the track before a race and try to figure your lines out.  Watch races prior to yours to see what lines are quicker as many people take a follow the leader attitude and just because most are doing it does not mean it is the quickest way.

    Do an aerobic workout at home and some light weights about 3 times a week and work on your tummy muscles as well.  

    Get someone who knows all about suspension to set up your suspension for your weight as that makes a huge difference.  

    Make sure you hydrate before a race as this helps with arm pump and if it is going to be super hot start hydrating a couple of days before the event.  

    Practice getting off the start line as that is a very important skill as it is hard to do well when you are constantly at the back of the pack.  Also practice picking your bike up quickly as the longer it is down the more places you lose.
