The trim on my on Mercury 115 is not working. Everything on the boat has power and everything looks to be connected fine. Is all I hear is a "click" everytime I hit the up or down on the trim button. Any ideas on what I should do try and fix it?

  1. Hello,

Yes all of these so far are good advice,I would also suggest checking the hydraulic fluid if none of these others are it.Also if it has sat for a long time they will tend to corrode inside the pump/reservoir which I have seen impair the movement. If the pump is bad don't freak out when you price a new one as you can get rebuild kits for most of the modern ones for a fraction of the cost of replacement.I hope this is helpful.

  2. all that click means is that the selinoid/relay has power...... How about the pump. that gets power through that "thing that goes click

  3. All good advice - in order to check if it is the selinoid - you can try jumping the wires (red = power, Green = down, Blue = up) that will let you know if it is the selinoid

  4. There are 2 solenoids, one for up and one for down. Check to see that each solenoid is allowing power to reach the trim pump motor. That would be thru the larger wires at the solenoid. I suspect the trim pump motor is bad if both solenoids are making noise (clicking sound) and the trim pump is not working.

  5. It's problaby one or both of the relays.  If it's a new Merc it's covered uner the warranty.  If not, they're about $12 USD each, same part, same part number.  If it is the relays get three of them, two to install an a spare for the future.  But the newer realys seem reliable.

It is strange that both the UP and DOWN relay would go bad at the same time.  I'd check the main power feed to each relay.
