Motorbike jump start?

Hi, I think my bike battery is flat when i press the starter button it makes same sort of sound my car does when its batt is flat.

I havent been riding long (roadbikes) and have been away on business for a month so its just sat there.

I know i can push start my car and i could do the same with my motocross bike when i had one so i presume you can bump/push start a road bike? I presume same as mx bike hold clutch in, put in second, push and pop clutch when bit of speed built up?

ta!

  1. you got it right. if it still gives a nasty skid in second when you pop the clutch and still won't start, try third gear.

  2. you have the right idea, however, the best thing to do would be to let the bike roll down a steep hill and use 4th or 5th gear if you have it, that way you wont get a skid

  3. yes, you can push start a bike, do not try to "jump start" a bike

  4. if the bike has an alarm it would have drained the battery just sitting there

yes your right about push/bump starting it

  5. yes

  6. The bump start method is just the same, but,if it is the alternator that has gone duff,it may be a long push and no bump.My advice is ,get a new battery,it should,nt have lost charge over that period.Check the starter first, undo the two nuts and pull it out ,check no oil has got past the seal and into the starter electrics. If it has, an exchange starter is needed.good luck,an exchange starter is expensive.
