Motorcycle Oil?

Hi, I am buying a 140cc 4T pitbike.

I asked emailed the shop on what (engine) oil to use and he said he would reccomend mineral. But I can use synthetic if I want.

I have motul 4 stroke 100% synthetic engine oil which i use in my KTM 250sx's transmission oul and I use it for my CRF250R's transmission and engine oil.

What will be the consequences of using this oil synthetic oil when i'm supposed to use mineral? (The motul oil is very high quality).

Cheers

  1. Some people think that running synthetic oil in a brand new engine is a bad idea, since it won't allow the engine to break in properly. It is advised to run mineral oil for the first thousand miles or so, then switch to synthetic.

Mobil disagrees with this, and says it's ok to run synthetic from day 1.

My opinion is that it probably doesn't make a l**k of difference what you use, as long as you check the level once in a while, and change it every few thousand miles. If I had an off road bike, I would use mineral oil, and change it frequently to remove the dust and contamination from the engine.

  2. Mineral as opposed to vegetable? I used to run castor bean oil in my Velocette. About all it did was smell funny and cost like heck ($2. a quart in 1966). My recommendation is to buy a good brand name grade of reasonably priced oil and change that oil frequently. Frequency of change is way more important than what kind of oil.

  3. All my ricer machanic buds say to never use full syth in bikes.

    They dont

But what do they know, they jsut fix other peoples broken ones.
