Motorcycle Road Trip from Denver to Lima, Peru?

I'm taking a road trip by myself from Denver to Lima, Peru. If anybody can give me any tips on which roads to take and where to take stopovers it would be much appreciated. I've been in Central and South America before (half a year actually) and I've known quite a few people who have taken the trip from LA to Ushuaia, Argentina (Southernmost city in the world). Mostly, I just need to know how to transport my bike from Panama to Colombia - I'm not crazy enough to drive through that border. Thanks!

  1. Well first of all you can't cross the Panama - Colombia border on a bike even if you wanted to, because there isn't.  Sorry to disappoint you but there isn't a border crossing.

Most people get to Panama City, and then either air freight or ship their car or bike to Cali, Colombia, and start down on to Ecuador and beyond.

You do have to be careful in Colombia, as some of the parts that you will be crossing are sometimes affected by their internal civil conflict, so get some information on whether it's safe to cross that area, or when are the times where it's safe to cross.

    Good Luck!

  2. Good luck on your trip. There are only two ways to transport  your bike,by boat or by air.Boat is sometimes cheaper but air is safer and more reliable.Search the web there is plenty of infomation from others that have gone before you.  Remember to keep the rubber side down.
