Motorcycle carborator cleaning and set up for 2000 Suzuki Marauder 800?

I am going to look at a 2000 Suzuki Marauder 800 in the morning. The bike has been setting for 2 years without being ridden.

The seller says the bike will start up if you choke the c**p out of it but it wont stay running.

Also he said a carb tune up and sync would run about 300.00

I dont know if that price is close or not.

Any way how would I go about cleaning the carbs and syncing the carbs if I buy this bike.

Thanks,

Eric

  1. cleaning the carbs can be done by yourself. You just gotta remember where all the pieces go! Video tape yourself taking it apart or draw a diagram. Carbs are not as sensitive as people say. One of the floats my be stuck also. Get a can of carb cleaner for 4 bucks at a auto parts store. The problem when they sit, is the old gas drys out inside the carbs and makes a crusty film. It can be cleaned. The syncing part is not too hard either. Ya just ajust the little skrew till it sounds better. then give it throttle. You can tell by the way its running if you need more adjustment. Do projects like this with friends because partaking in a bigger project will leave you wanting to excape from it. Do it all at once, if you leave it go, it will never get done. It will sit on the "to do" list and then you will forget how it goes together.

  2. Carb cleaning spray will help but if it has sat out in bad conditions then it's highly likely you will have to re kit them.Dialling them in is an easy job,i'd ring a few cycle wreckers in your area and see if they have a set laying around from a recent arrival .If it's been sitting for 2 years i would be thinking that this is just going to be one of a few problems your going to have.
