  1. What makes You think it is in good  condition? It is stretched beyond the tolerances which means it is worn out. I'm sure Your sprockets need replaced too. If You put a worn chain on new sprockets it will wear them out prematurely and You gain nothing. Better to replace all Three at once.

  2. You  can take a link out if your hard up or need to get somewhere. If the chain is that far stretched then I highly doubt it is in good shape. Keep your machine at its highest level of dependability and get a new chain. Also check the sprockets if they're worn change them. Easier to fix it right in the 1st place, then to be sitting on the side of the road wishing you had.

  3. I just want to know which no it all idiot thumb downed all these answers. The chain is stretched point plank. Time for a new chain. Common sense here.

    Some people!

  4. If the sprockets have pointed teeth, or worse hooked, they are worn beyond safe use (they should have a flat top to the tooth), if at the rear of the rear sprocket you can pull the chain almost off the teeth, the chain has reached the end of its working life. It would be possible to remove a link, it wouldn't be wise.

  5. Just because all the links look the same and it doesn't slip doesn't mean the chain is in good condition.  The wear may be evenly spread.  The owners manual will give guidance on how to check the chain for your bike - different manufacturers use different methods.  However, I suspect the chain has had it - it's passed its safe life.  Replace the chain and sprockets together, otherwise you'll need to replace the chain again very soon as the worn sprockets will wear the chain.

I've experience broken chain on a bike - it's a pain.  On some bikes the chain breaks and takes part of the engine with it.  This is almost always much more expensive than replacing just the chain and sprockets.  Chain breakage may also cause an accident if i) it jams the rear wheel; ii) causes you to lose drive power just when you need it.

  6. as you say the chain is in good condition  it should be fine but check the sprocket too

  7. If the chain has reached the limit of adjustment, it is definitely NOT in good condition.  It might still look fine, but it isn't.  Time for a new chain - and sprockets, you should always replace the sprockets when you replace the chain.

  8. new chain in needed. Old chain is not safe it is streched this much.

  9. New chain ,loads cheaper than a new spleen and testicallios.

  10. best way to tell the condition of the Chane is to try and pull it off the rear sprocket...if it moves any more than a couple of mm,then its advised to change the lot,inc sprockets...

generally you have to remove 2 links, but ive seen some that are both thick and thin links so depending on how much adjustment you have on the wheel depends on which link you use...

    EDIT

also if you remove the chane and rattle it there should be no noise, also try putting the chain on a flat surface, spin it 90% and lift it up....it should only have a slight arc and not bend down sharply,if it is its deff shafted.

  11. If it has stretched to that point, it is worn out. It no longer seats in the sprocket as it needs to and is causing wear to the sprockets. Doesn't really matter though because I suggest replacing the chain and sprockets in a set anyway. It just may leave you sitting beside the road with a broken chain and case damage though.

  12. when a chain has reached its limit of stretching its time to get a new one.  don't resk a injury just couse you want to be cheap .good luck.

  13. if its reached the limit of adjustment, then I'd expect it to indicate the chan is now out of tolerance. I suppose you could remove a link of chain, but if its already at the desing limit, then surely its better to bin it and put a new chain on...... after all its not as if the chain is a critical component, or one that if it does fail could serious damage to the bike or cause an accident (as if...)

  14. If you have run out of adjustment then your chain is worn out, unless your chain was too long to begin with. A simple test is to roll the tire backwards, a worn chain and sprockets will click and pop.
