Motorcycle crash help?

Question

my boyfriend was in a recent motorcycle crash. something happened to the plate in his leg, his knee area, where it hurts when he moves and he has to get surgery....

any advice on what he should do besides not move to help it less painful?

and any advice on what i should do for him to make him feel better?

a nice bowl of cookies and cream ice cream after surgery should make him feel good. = ) - it does for me

Did he go to the doctor? If not, I would suggest going to one or to the ER. The clowns in Yahoo answers will have YOU doing a n amputation if you listen to them. If you're close enough to go, have a doctor refer him to the Houston Sports Clinic in Columbus Georgia. I live just south west of there and unless things have changed drastically, they are the best orthopedic hospital in the southeast. My sone went there many years ago after an accident nearly ripped his arm off, He regained over 90% of the use of the arm.

Ice it to keep the swelling down. Ibuprofien (Motrin) also helps with the swelling. Get him on crutches or in a wheelchair and avoid all use of the injured leg. Get some Xrays to see the exact damage and talk with an orthopaedic surgeon to asses the damage

The first thing that either of you should do is get to an orthopedic doctor and have the leg examined thoroughly.  The doctor will provide all the information you need for the road ahead.

First keep the injured area/knee elevated, at least level if not higher than the heart.  Second pain killers/anti inflammatory, I keep some Aleve/Naproxen around for these kind of emergencies.

Ice packs are good to reduce swelling, but take them off every now and then to allow oxygenated blood to start the healing process.

Make an appointment to see a DR.
