My husband has a Harley Road King and needs to take his driving test at the DMV, but is hesitate because of several others who have tried and failed because you just can't manuveur those kinds of bikes like they want you to. I was wondering if there was a place here in Southern California that rents mopeds or scooters that he could take the test on that would be easier to manuever around the cones and make the turns going to slow???? Any other suggestions????

  1. Check craigslist.org Los Angeles motorcycle section.

There's a guy who will rent out his 250cc bike for this purpose who advertises periodically.

  2. If he takes the test on a small bike, he gets a license for bikes up to 600 cc's He needs to take it on a larger bike, If he can't ride his harley he should get something smaller until he can ride a larger bike

  3. First, Road Kings CAN be maneuvered through the DMV test.

Second, if you can't pass the DMV test on the bike, it might be telling you something about your skills.  Pick up "proficient motorcycling," by David Hough.  Practice in an empty parking lot.  Any way you have to, get better at maneuvering before you go out on public streets.

  4. i think he can take a msf (motorcycle safety foundation)course and that will be in place of the dmv test i'm not sure about cali but a lot states accept it, i woluld recommend it anyway, but he should be able to show them the certificate and walk out with his license, plus if you have been certified it will lower insurance rates

    msf-usa.org

  5. take MSF course in Norwalk,,,,,they will pass the skills test for you and the DMV will only make you take the written.  i have a FLHR too....
