I have a 2008 gsxr 750. I have 458 miles on it right now and i understand that I will have to take it in for service at 500 miles. My question is this, i know that on a motorcycle, the first service is also the most important so how much should i expect to pay? also, does it have to get serviced right at 500 or can i expand it to 600? this is my first bike so im not really familiar with this sort of things. Please help, any advice will be much appreciated!

  1. my advice is to have the first service done by the dealer, while you could do it, if any warr issues come up you be have less hassles

  2. It will cost you $300-500 because they are SUPPOSED to adjust valves.  I would watch and see if they really do.

Otherwise, they change oil and filter, which the bike needs to flush break in metal out of motor, and check to see if anything is falling off.

  3. Your first service is important and you should have it done close to the recommended time.  Running it to 600 miles isn't going to hurt anything.

Most first services drop the oil and change the oil filter, make sure all of the fluids are correct, check fasteners, steering head bearing, chain, etc, etc.

It will likely cost a few hundred dollars, but IMO is one of the most important services.

Call your dealer's service department tomorrow and ask them what they charge.

  4. It might be a hundred plus, they have to do an oil, filter change, inspect/adjust valve clearances, inspect/ adjust the carb, and tighten up all the nut, bolts and spokes around the bike.

Also the 500 miles is a ballpark figure, it depends on your riding style, if you are expecting to baby the bike, you can put off the service until 600 no problem. If you are going to use it on the racetrack, or pull wheelies after every intersection, you should service it sooner.

  5. my advice is do it your self by the book... what they are going to is check everything out and make sure its all tight.. and really if you cant do the work on the bike  your going to be spending a lot of money.... expect a few hundred bucks is wise to have them do the first one if you dont know what to do but learn will save you a bunch.. call them and ask how much first service is be sitting down... i do my own work on my bike which has over 70,000 miles only been back once for repairs to a wire i couldnt find
