My husband just bought a bike and they sold him a helmet and gloves that are too big, a jacket that is too small...and didn't give him anything but the debit reciept, and he wore the gear when he rode home so now they won't exchange it. SO...now we need to know where to go to get new gear at a decent price??? We also need to pick up some women's gear when we get my husbands...but where to go? We are new to the whole motorcycle scene and we don't want to get taken!! Thanks. We live in the northish portland area.

  1. Crazy

You got took by those bums. They should exchange it all.

First off, you hubby isn't experienced enough to ride you for some time.  He needs to learn how to keep his own weight up first.

A good place for leathers is Eagle Leather in Tacoma WA.

They will hand fit you with everything. It is a 3 hour drive for you.

On-line buying is the WRONG thing for you guys.

  2. Go online to

    dennis kirk. com

    or

    chaparral motorcycles

but really there are a ton of places but I have used those online with good results.

and if you bought the gear from a motorcycle store.... ask for the manager and explain your problem. if they still give you a hard time... contact the company the place represents i.e., honda, yamaha, harley etc. you should be able to exchange them as long as they are in perfect condition... last resort, sell them on ebay or craigslist.

    good luck.

  3. Don't buy any riding gear online if you're wanting proper fit. Go to a large, well equipped dealership that has a big assortment of leathers and helmets and try on the style you like till you find the fit you like. It's like buying jeans at the mall just this time it's leather. And don't worry about the price cause it's all OVER priced *lol*.

  4. Check for the Cycle Gear chain in your area. They are a national chain that sells motorcycle supplies but not the bikes themselves. They are usually a little less expensive than the bike dealers.

Other than that, you pretty much have to go to one of your local dealers. But remember that it can be any dealer unless you need parts just for your bike. And even then, most dealers can order parts that will fit your bike from a wholesaler, just not from the manufacturer.

  5. Try E-Bay. These guys have some reasonalby priced gear.

Except for any necessary work on the bike, I would not buy so much as a doo-rag from those bums who won't exchange the gear.

    Good Luck.

  6. Being from the Portland area you want something strong and warm for the upcoming cold weather. Personally if you go to any bike shop you will pay out the behind for clothes to make you look like a wanna be biker. If you want a leather jacket go to a swap shop or pawn shop. They always have them and you will save a few hundred bucks. Also why look like wanna bes? I have been riding since the sixties and I wear a good pair of carhart bibs and a army coat in cold weather with two pairs of gloves. In the summer I wear a leather jacket with a denim jacket with sleeves off for more maneuverability and protection. The road has a lot of morons who don,t or won,t care if you are invading their road space so I wear a lot of protection just in case. The road is unforgiving if you go down and it is good to have a lot on to grind off before it gets to your skin. Happy riding! see you at the grainery in Farmington.

  7. I buy my gear online from motorcycle-superstore.com. I go to my local dealer and try the gear for fit and then I know which size to order. I save between 20-30% from my local dealers and I have always been satisfied with it. They even send coupons for money off your next purchase. I just got another $50.00 off coupon. And they have every manufacturer.

  8. www.newenough.com

    Reasonable prices.

I can understand not exchanging the helmet, almost no one does that, but the bike and gloves are a different story.

  9. Look in you local phone book for motorcycle shops. The independent shops are usually cheaper than the franchised dealers. Visit a few shops to see what they offer.

You are also going to need a shop to do your repairs and inspections too, so check out that part of their business while you are there.

Good luck and welcome to biking.
