ou already have your drivers license for the car and now your gonna do your motorcycle. You pass the written test, you get the permit, you buy a motorcycle, you learn, then you go and take your motorcycle skill/driven test and you pass. What now to go inside the dmv and give them your passed exam papers?? Do they take your drivers license away and you have to wait for the new one??

I live in Los Angeles, California.

  1. Yes and no. Some places will give you a motorcycle only license and have you keep your regular license.  Others will take your old one, and give you a new one with a special endorsement that signifies you can legally drive a motorcycle.

  2. They should give you your new license then and there. That's how they do it here in Illinois.

BTW, I didn't know about the permit and loaded my scooter in the back of my truck to take it down for the written and riding tests. Sucked!

  3. When I got mine, they printed me a new license right then and there.

I think recently they moved the printing off-site, so they started handing out temp licenses that could be used while waiting for the new one.

Either way, they're not going to prevent you from driving legally while waiting for your new license.

  4. No, u should not have to wait for a new one.

They usually take it and make a new one right away.

What kind of motorcycle did u buy? just wondering :)
