Question:

Motorcycle lights won't even turn on...?

I put my bike in storage because I was gone for the summer. A couple weeks after I left a friend of mine removed the battery so it wouldn't die. Everything was apparently working fine with my motorcycle at that point in time. When I came back, I took the battery into Auto Zone and had them recharge it overnight and the whole shabang. I put the battery back in, went to start up my bike and...nothing. Usually the lights turn on, the clock turns on, you know, just a couple of things so you know you're bike is saying HELLO! Anyway, nothing even happened. I checked the fuses and none of them looks to be burned or damaged...

I have a Honda CBR 900RR. What other things could be causing this? A friend of mine said wire connections...is there a good way to check that? Input is greatly appreciated!

  1. You cannot charge a dead battery. Leaving the battery hooked up will definitely drain the battery but just unhooking it only slows the process down not prevent it.

Once it's dead, it's dead. there is no charging it. You need to either replace the battery acid and then charge, or just buy a new battery. Next year leave the battery in the bike. Just unhook it but go hook it up and ride it every 2 weeks to keep it fresh. You only need to ride it a mile or two then park it and unhook it again.

Some people say you'll need a trickle charger and all this equipment. Low maintenance, low cost method is just unhook it, and go ride it every 2 weeks. You'll be fine.

  2. The guy above me is right!  The battery need to be trickle charge while you are not using the bike.  Auto Zone just helped you by killing the cells with over charging it.  Replace it with a new battery and you'll be alright.

  3. Replace the battery it is junk.

  4. I agree with these guys....If that doesn't fix it get a multimeter/voltmeter and check continuity of your wiring, also if the bike's been standing for a while check the earth connections haven't rusted or got loose.
