Motorcycle modification confusion...

Question

If you bought a street legal motorcycle, took out the engine, and replaced it w/ a high torque/ low energy consuming electric motor...what license would you need? A regular drivers license? Would it be considered a moped? Would it still be street legal? Thanks

you dont need one

It would still be considered a motorcycle 2 or 3 wheels and its a motorcycle. it does not change by what type motor is providing propulsion.

It would be considered a motorcycle...the same as an electric car is still considered a car.

My question is, if you had a "high torque" eletric motor..one that would be capable of pushing the bike to speeds of lets say 50mph...where are you going to put the batteries at???

I can't answer your question because it is very dependent on where you live and the laws in your area.

I would check the local driving authority if I were you as they would be best able to help you. There may some unexpected rules regarding the sort of conversion you have undertaken.
