Motorcycle permit????

I live in Colorado and it says in order to get my motorcycle license i must hold a permit for 12 months. How does the permit work? Do u have to have someone on the bike with you or what? I sure would hope not because theres no way an unexperienced rider would be able to ride with a person on the back. Any information is appreciated.

P.S. I just got my regular license so i would have to have the permit because im under 18.

  1. I know in New York State you have to bring a person with a motorcycle and and a motorcycle license. You then follow that person with a car that your driving, or someone to take you too the test area. With that you get on the bike and the car you came with, the person who has the motorcycle takes the DMV examiner in the car and follows in back of you on the bike. The examiner will tell you what to do when driving the bike, like which block to make a left then a right and so on. It takes about 30 days in New York to get your license after passing your road test. I hope I was some help because each State is different. Good Luck!

  2. I also have a permit to operate a motorcycle but I live in california. I don't see how that is different from colorado because its pretty much the same in texas (I have cousins who ride in texas) there are only 3 restrictions with a motorcycle permit. 1. you can't ride on freeways. 2. you cant carry a passenger. and 3. you can't drive out at night so you are free to drive anywhere during daylight hours (keep in mind to stay away from highways) and then when you are ready, call dmv and set up an appointment to take the road test but if you can borrow a 250cc from someone, it will be a lot easier. I've been practacing the course after hours at the dmv and its really hard with my gsxr 750. good luck
