I have a1990 honda cbr 600 that won't start unless I charge the battery before I start it. and even then sometimes I have to charge it again because it doesn't have enough juice to get it going. I can push start it and it will start and I can leave for a couple of hrs. after riding it and it will start up again, so it is the battery that I just need a new one or is it somehting else?

  1. Battery life is normally 2 years.  After that period they loose their power of current retention.  If you do not remember when you changed it last, that means it is old enough.  Even though you may see the lights on the dash, it is not reason enough to believe that it has the cranking power to fire your engine.  That requires the correct current to turn your starter motor.  Whereas the bulbs may work just if you have the correct voltage.  Therein lies the difference.

Imagine you have a water pipe.  The water in the pipe is the current.  The pressure with which it flows or sprays from its end is the voltage.  It is possible to have very little water but being sprayed with a good pressure.  Got it ?

  2. sounds like u new a new battery. if u can get a volt meter, or when u buy a new one have them do this, and check the voltage through the battery at 5k rpm, and if it is at least 13.8 then the battery is the only problem.

  3. Go buy a battery and your problem will be solved...

  4. Change the battery. They only last about 18 months anyway.

  5. Cause nobody said this yet- battery...

  6. yes...get a new battery first....then maybe check alternator as well

  7. Get a new battery.

    Good Luck...

  8. Its probably the battery, but have the charging system checked when you go the replace the battery. (Some charging system faults can boil the fluid off the plates, and kill a brand new battery.)

You could end up replacing the alternator, the regulator, AND the battery!

  9. After a while the cells in the battery stop holding a long charge. So the best thing to do is buy a new battery for it
