I can not tune out the Squelch on my P50 two way radio but I can shut it off any suggestions??? I was thinking about taking it to Radioshack but around here it seems that the only thing they deal with is cell phones.

  1. your talking about a cb or a scanner?a cb, turn the squelch so you can only pick up close around you, same way with the scanner. i have both, cb in my car and a scanner in my home.

  2. It sounds like you're saying that the squelch is open all the time so the radio is constantly making static noise unless it's receiving a transmission from another radio.  Look for a monitor switch on the radio.  Many have this switch instead of a squelch control.  It simply turns the squelch noise on and off as a quick check of volume.  It might be a switch with a little zigzag next to it, kink of like a lightning bolt that is supposed to mean the squelch noise.

  3. squelch is set by a digital setting. the software is highly guarded by /\/\otorola so you will need to take it to a RSS (Motorola Radio Service Shop) and they can set the squelch.

    Did this just happen?

Can you hear the other HT can they hear you?

The reason I ask, perhaps the CTCSS decoder has opened up if you are in PL mode.
