Question:

Motrobike license in UK?

Hello.

I'm planning to finally do my motorbike license, but I don't know how does it work in UK?

Do we have like different trainings here? Depends on age and skills?

I've been riding a bike, 50cc with an automatic trasmission. It was a cross-enduro like bike, so I was pretty crazy riding it :)

Yeah, and I'm 21.

Any links for goo motorbike trainings in Bedford would be usefull.

Thanks.

  1. You should already have completed the CBT training , to legally ride a 50 cc bike on the road.

You will need to take a Theory Test, if you have not already done so.

Then you can either go ahead and take the road test on a bike up to 125 cc which will enable you to ride up to a 33 bhp bike with no L plates.

On this licence you ride the smaller bike for 2 years and then automatically are upgraded to be able to ride bigger bikes with no further test.

Or you can do a DAS course to enable you to take the test on a bigger bike (eg 500 cc) and which, if you pass, will enable you to ride any size motorbike.

    Look details up on:  www.direct.gov.uk

  2. You will need a DVLA licence, It is the card and counterpart for all your vehicles. Nothing is seperate, just means you have extra categories added.

    1. Apply for a dvla licence (If you don't already have one)

    2. Take a CBT training course - see details below

    3. Complete a theory test

    4. Complete a Practical test

    5. Upgrade your licence to full

What is Compulsory Basic Training ?

This is a course that you take, dependant on the size of bike that will train you to ride it, and a certificate will be awarded at the end to enable you to legally ride it for 2 years on 'L' plates.

Before the 2 years are up, you must take the theory and practical tests, passing them both will grant you a full licence for the size of motorcycle that you wish.

At the age of 21, you can ride any size of bike, so take the highest engine size of CBT possible, if you feel up to it.

    CBT Sizes:

    50cc - Small mopeds

    125cc - Medium vehicles

    500cc - Larger Motorbikes
