Mott preparing all out attack for the Breeders’ Cup
Puffing his chest over remarkable victories by Flat Out in the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup and Royal Delta annihilating the Grade 1 Beldame Invitational, Hall of Famer, Bill Mott has shown his fiery ambition of winning the Grade 1, $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic by sending three of his most prominent runners in the 1 ¼ mile event, and staying optimistic over Royal Delta’s ability to defend her title in the Grade 1, $2 million Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic at Santa Anita Park.
Mott reported on 30 September, that all his runners came back from their respective races in good condition, and will train for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships as planned. Bill Mott, who won the 2011 edition of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic with Drosselmeyer have never entered three in the race.
Apart from Flat Out, Mott is planning to send To Honor and Serve, who finished fourth in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap, and sixth place finisher to Flat Out in the Gold Cup, Ron the Greek.
"It didn't surprise me whatsoever," he said of Flat Out. "I thought he was sitting on a race that I thought the outcome could be that. I suppose I was little surprised in Ron the Greek, that he didn't fire. Usually, he's been so consistent for us, but he seemed to not really like the racetrack that much. That's the only thing we can figure out right now."
To Honor and Serve, never in the race, in the Kelso Handicap, has the credentials and the ability to do well in the Classic, and Mott recognizes the fact, and will send the runner to defend the $5 million event for him.
In the Kelso Handicap, Mott believes he never got going, and never showed any intent, especially after getting bumped leaving the gate, To Honor and Serve turned in a sluggish performance.
His big effort at Saratoga could have contributed to his lackluster performance in the Kelso Handicap, but whatever the case, Mott will ensure that his runner is ready to give his best in the Breeders' Cup Classic
