  1. You should avoid this kind of show it has nothing to do with the French culture. The aim is the tourists...

  2. I went to Moulin Rouge a couple of years ago and i totally recommend it. It was such a good show and was absolutely unreal. It was way expensive, i think it cost me about $300 australian dollars or something, but i'd pay it again to see it. We went to a dinner and show performance - the food was good and it included a few bottles of wine and champagne per table.

I think if you're going all the way to PAris then you should definitely go.

The guy above said it was aimed at tourists - correct, but you are a tourist! You can leave French cultural things to another day and totally go to this! I don't think it was tacky or anything either. You will totally enjoy yourself.

I booked my tickets online from the moulin rogue website. here is the address. When you have a look around you'll see there are lunch time matinees, show only etc, but i fully recommend the dinner and show package.

Enjoy!! I will definitely see it again and i think you should go!

  3. The Moulin Rouge is a specific place so I am not sure what you mean when you say "there are a few different types."

Do not under any circumstances allow anyone to convince you to waste your money on this garbage.

The show at the Moulin Rouge is designed to impress yokels with more money than good taste. It is  a Las Vegas type showgirl revue (i.e. bare breasted women in ludicrous looking costumes) with a higher price tag. The same can be said for the shows at the Lido and the Crazy Horse, two other tourist traps.

I notice in another question you state you are going with your adult daughter. If you would like an evening of dinner and entertainment that really is sophisticated and in excellant taste then try Le Bel Canto at 72, quai Hôtel de Ville in the 4th arr., a restaurant where all the staff are Opera singers. website: http://www.lebelcanto.com

If opera just isn't your cup of tea then consider Le petit Journal at 71, boulevard Saint-Michel in the 5th arr. for dinner and live jazz. Very real and very Parisian. Website: http://perso.orange.fr/claude.philips/

  4. I would recommend getting tickets with either Paris Vision or Cityrama. The show runs late and by then, the Metro will be closed.

We went with Paris Vision and they dropped us off at our hotel after the show. That way, we didn't need to try to hail a cab in the chaos that ensues after the show lets out. I really wouldn't want to be wandering the streets of Pigalle at night, either.

With Paris Vision, we got a nocturnal tour of the city via bus, a cruise along the Seine River and the late show at the Moulin Rouge. You can also opt for the package that has the dinner included.

  5. terrific.  the hotel where you stay sells them
