Mount Athos looking for a hat-trick in Betfred "The Bonus King" Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3)
Mount Athos is all set to record a hat-trick of victories in the sport, by claiming the Betfred "The Bonus King" Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3) at Newbury in England on Saturday, August 18, 2012. He has been unbeaten this year and will be looking to continue
such dominant form.
The young runner does not have an extraordinary record in the sport, but he is fully capable of winning the cash prize of £31,191 from the class-1 race, which is scheduled to start at 14:30 GMT. He will definitely like the conditions, as rain has stayed
away from the track and the going will be good.
There are some other decent runners participating in the 1 mile, 5 furlong and 61 yard event and they will give a tough time to the race favourite. One of them is Brown Panther, who has been given a general starting price of 5 to 2 by the bookmakers. He
has earned five victories out of 11 outings, but failed to deliver last time around.
On the other hand, Mount Athos has been priced 9 to 4 by the bookies because of his solid form in the 2012 season. He will not be dominant, but there are clear chances for him to outshine others. Therefore, the punters will be risking a lot of bets on him.
The five-year-old gelding got off to a pathetic start to his career in 2009. He took part in a couple of events that year and failed to make an impression in any of them. Although, there were a few ups and downs for him during the next year, yet he managed
to win three races overall.
The 2011 season was not a very good one for the Luca Cumani’s trainee, as he managed to win just one race that year. However, things have worked out quite positively for the young runner in recent times.
In 2012, the Irish gelding has been a bit selective, but that has helped him focus a lot more than before. He has won a couple of races this year and will be looking forward to a third one today. His partner will be veteran jockey, Ryan Moore.
