Mount Benbulben unstoppable in Growise Champion Novice Chase
Mount Benbulben stamped his authority in the Growise Champion Novice Chase (Grade 1) at Punchestown in Ireland on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Despite not being the favourite to succeed, he took control of the things and no one was able to come anywhere close
to him in the end.
The Irish challenger ran really well and controlled his pace nicely. Moreover, he was extremely good over the fences, which allowed him to gain a massive lead over his rivals in the race.
There were some extremely talented runners up against the eight-year-old gelding, so he had to fight hard right from the start of the proceedings. He was not express at the start, but kept on challenging the front runners with his speed and jumping skills.
He was so smooth, which allowed him to gain places with the passage of time. Once he took the lead, he went onto grow stronger. No one was able to fight him in the race and he finished on top of the table by 22 lengths.
Owner of Mount Benbulben, Barry Connell was pleased with the overall performance of his challenger and expected him to do well in the future too. He credited the jockey Danny Mullins for a wonderful ride.
According to Connell, “He's been a big help to me since he started working for me and has given this horse a great ride. I think the fact he didn't go to Cheltenham meant he came here fresher than the others and the longer trip and therefore slower pace
meant he was able to really get into a rhythm with his jumping.”
He went onto say, “Hopefully we'll be able to go for all the big three mile chases with him next year.”
Overall, the Gordon Elliott’s trainee has participated in a total of 17 races and his performances in them have been truly magnificent. He has maintained a decent strike rate, winning seven events until now and has the potential of growing stronger in the
future.
Other than his wins, he has finished as a runner up on a couple of times whereas secured the third spot once.
