Mount Saint Charles boys volleyball team defeats Cranston East by 3-0
Thursday night fared well for the Mount Saint Charles boys volleyball team as they were able to make a clean sweep over Cranston East.
Despite the fact that the Thunderbolts lost in three back-to-back sets, they did not go down without putting up a commendable fight against the Mounties.
By the time that the Mounties were celebrating their well-earned win by screaming their throats sore and Cranston East were heading out of the courts cradling their disappointment, the scoreboard displayed the following final set scores that narrated the
happenings of the night in short: 25-15, 25-23 and 25-20.
With their recent win, the Mounties are now able to boast of a total of 10 victories in this season so far. These victories have been bagged at the cost of experiencing defeats that amount to be three so far.
As opposed to the performance statistics of the Mounties, the overall season record of the Thunderbolts falls a bit pale. The number of times that the Thunderbolts have been able to tally victories equal to be four. These wins came against suffering a higher
amount of defeats that are eight so far.
The start of the first set of the game saw both the Mounties as well as the Thunderbolts go in for the kill. For the early part of the set, it was as if a tug of war was taking place between the two teams.
However, when the match reached its middle stages, the Mounties were able to take the lead for themselves at 16-7. The Thunderbolts did not let this de-motivate them and they managed to close in the gap at 19-13. However, the Thunderbolts were not successful
in overtaking the Mounties, who were able to bag the first set of the game at 25-15.
After winning the first set of the match, the Mounties were able to cash in on their confidence and take the lead early on at 7-5. After this point, the match experienced a number of ties spaced out at short intervals that ended with a lead of the Thunderbolts
at 15-13. However, the Mounties did not give up in the struggle and managed to pull in another set win at 25-23.
The third set of the game saw the Thunderbolts put in a half-hearted effort. They were never able to significantly challenge the Mounties, who took an early lead and never relinquished it. As a result, the Mounties won the third set at 25-20.
When the night had reached its close and the Mounties coach, Josh D’Abate was asked to express his feelings about the match, he said, “Tonight was a step in the right direction towards the playoffs. I thought we passed the ball really well.”
