Question:

Mountain Bike Question - Derailleur Tuning?

by  |  earlier

I purchased a Mountainsmith Mountain bike a couple years back, but it's sat mostly. This has happened since new. Every 5-6 petal rotations it seems to "Skip" for a half of a rotation, which is truly annoying. Any ideas on what may be causing this? Thanks in advance.

  1. Try oiling the chain.  As far as tuning the derailleur, most shifters have little dials where the cable comes out of them that you cana twist to fine-tune it.

  2. Sound like a stiff link hanging up.

pedal backwards standing still and see if it happens at the same spot on the chain.

watch the chain go around the derailleur jockey wheel, mark it with typing "white out"

    good luck

  3. There might be a tight chain bushing is not properly lubricated or bended chains. check each chain connection for some tightness of bushing and fix it. because that also happens to me before. and lubricate your chains oftenly to make your gear shifting more smooth.
