Question:

Mountain Bike Repair Costs?

How much would a repair cost for a Mountain bike? The gear changing system is messed up. Also the braking system cable is worn out and frayed, causing the rear brakes to not function properly. I know I could probably fix it myself for less, but I'll probably not fix it correctly and I want it to be done right.

Thanks

  1. quite alot for the whole gear system, though that depends on what part of it you mean

    brake cable £5-10

    - you might want to look at the brake pads while your there aswell

for the gears you say they dont change well, thats probably the rear derailleur

    (£20-50+)

  2. I suggest that you go to your local shop and get an estimate. There are way too many things that might be wrong with the bike and way too many quality levels of parts to give you any answer at all.

In my shop a complete overhaul- basically tearing the bike apart and starting over- costs $100 to $250 including loose bearings, cables and housings. If you require other parts (which I doubt) they are sold at 20% off retail.

If all you need is a brake/drivetrain tune up we charge $60 including cables and housing. Brake pads are additional. This is probably what you need.
