What is your recomendation on a new pair of mountain bike shoes? I would like to keep the price under $75 if I can get a descent pair for that price. Also they need to be SPD compatible.

  1. There are a fair number of shoes under $75.00 that are SPD compatible.  Don't expect shoes in this dollar range to be particularly light, though.  Here are some things you might want to think about.

    - Rubber sole shoes are comfortable for walking.  If you put in a lot of hours on the bike, they are too flexible and will make your feet sore.

    - Lace up shoes can be real comfortable, because you can lace them exactly as tightly as you want.  However, you can't easily adjust tightness on a long ride if your feel swell.

    - Velcro and/or buckles work well.  The more velcro straps or buckles the more adjustable the shoe for a comfy fit.

Performance, for example carries a bunch of shoes that should fit your needs.  You can to list shoes by price and check then check the specs to be sure they are SPD compatible.

I'd strongly suggest you only buy shoes you can actually try on so you know they fit and are comfortable.

    Hope this helps.
