  1. I would go for a hybrid. With mountain bikes you'll lose a good bit of speed on the road. I wouldn't go with a mountain bike unless you're actually going to be doing lots of off-road biking. Road bikes can get messed up if you're going to be on a lot of crappy roads. A hybrid is in between, it's designed for not-so perfect roads and you don't lose the kind of speed you would if you rode a mountain bike.

  2. I'd go for a mountain bike.

With a MTB, you can atleast go on a road. If you try using a road bike on a mountain...It won't work.

With a MTB, you'll be slower on the road as yer tyres will be wider and your bike heavier but often you can have a more comfortable ride with great suspension.

  3. I'm a road cyclist and have to say that mountain bikes give you more bang for the buck. There is a lot more competition in the mountain market than on the road. Road riders tend to get manic about bike weight, so a lot of their stuff is made of expensive materials which increases cost. MTBs are also a lot more rugged and will spend less time in the repair shop. If you want to ride an MTB on the road, try getting a set of slick tires with a max pressure of at least 80 psi. You can get them for $10 when they are on sale. You won't go anywhere near as fast as a true road bike, but you will enjoy the streets more.

  4. I'll take one of each please! MTB will get you from point A to point B. a hard tail will do it more efficiently then a full suspension ride. slicks will roll better than knobbies. if you can only afford one bike, but want to ride trails, as well as ride the roads, then get a quality hardtail MTB. itll be a light efficient ride, and you can change the tires for your commutes. or if you like the looks of road bikes, and want to be able to ride in the drops, get a cyclo-cross bike. best bet is to talk to your LBS, and decide what is going to be best for you!

  5. a mountain bike, and if you don't like the handling put road tires on that. That makes it more of a universal bike. Then you always have the option to go off road.

  6. Mountain bikes are a better deal. Street bikes can barely handle bumps without getting bent up. Mountain bikes handle great on the road and you can still go about 40 mph. on them. And of course, you can go practically anywhere on a mountain bike.

  7. in my opinion a mountain bike is way better for your money. they ride fine on a road and can go off-road where as a road bike cant go off road at all. and...mountain bikes are way more fun

  8. I myself have a mountain bike. It handles OK on road and it was worth it.

  9. Mountain bikes can be used both on road and off, they have much better suspension and usually have more comfortable seats. Road bikes are way more expensive and for no particular reason in my opinion, their wheels are also very thin so riding them anywhere but the road is out of the question, and unless you are some sort of professional bicycler rider you will look ridiculous on one. I highly recommend a mountain bike, you don't have to wear extremely tight shorts or have to clamp your shes to the pedals.
