Question:

Mountain Creek vs. Camelback?

Hi, so I'm going skiing this week sometime and I live on long island around 30 minutes away from NYC.. i think I'm going to choose mountain creek or camelback (because of their close proximity) but I'm not sure which is better. I've heard mountain creek is ridiculously crowded on weekends.. which is when I'd go. I've skiied diamonds before but usually I stick to the blue trails and I'm fairly comfortable on them.

Or.. I can go to other mountains such as catamount or other places that are around a 2 hour drive.

please help :D

  1. I have been to both places in recent weeks and here is my observations.

Camelback is a much better run mountain. All trails are open, regular touch up snowmaking, better conditions etc. Lift tickets are $49 on weekend vs $62 at Mountain Creek. I found it much more crowded although no significant lift lines. Mountaincreek seems to be catering to the hardcore snowboarders and has scared away a lot of skiers and families. As a result it is no long crowded even on the weekend. If I had to pick between the two, I would go for Camelback, although I probably would avoid both and travel up to Bellayre, Windham or Hunter. I think the conditions up there would be much better and it is only a little farther from LI than Camelback or MC.

    Hope this help.

  2. I personally like Camelback, tho i've never been to mountain creek.  Camelback will have a good number of trails to choose from (as long as all the trails are open - i'd check their website for that).  Mountains will always be a little more crowded on the weekends, so i'd choose based on the number of trails they have open and the quality of the snow!  Enjoy!
