Mountain bike front derailler cage width.?

Question

Does the cage width of the 7 speed Front Dérailleur (using IG30 chain) is still the same of the 9 speed Front Dérailleur (using HG73) (mega 9 chain)?

I do believe the 9 speed in narrower The difference is small but to get the same action the cage is a little narrower to engage the narrower chain in the same fashion as the wider 7 speed chain.
