I'm 5'1" and have a 27-28" inseam and am having a hard time finding a used mountain bike that is small enough for me. I was thinking of looking into youth bikes since I'm probably the height of a 12 yr old :) What size bike might work? I'm baffled by the sizing of mountain bikes...

And yes, I know I should get fitted by a professional, but I'm trying to figure out my approximate size now so I can look for used bikes online (i.e. craigslist, etc).

  1. Usually bikes with tires that are 26 inches would be the best for you.

Make sure when you buy your bike the crossbar on the frame isn't perfectly horizontal and that it is at a 40 or so degree angle. Otherwise you might get laughed at.

  2. I know a couple girls - about 5-0. They both have 13.5" MTB frames. So they're out there. Stick with adult 26" wheel bikes.

  3. still get fitted by a pro. then look for a used bike. it make everything much simpler
