what are the best mountain bike brands

I'm not going to answer this with brand names, you need to look at what type of riding you are going to do and if you have good dealer support from your local bike shop, this is way more important than the brand. The next issue is depending on what type of riding you do, plan on spending $750+ on the bike for an entry level hard-tail to over $2000 for a good downhill bike.

Agree - Trek, Specialized, Cannndale, Kona, Diamonback, ..there's lots. Personally, I like Specialized.

Depends what type of riding you are doing. If you ride XC, you can get a very good bike for $500-$900 In Raleigh or Giant brand. You don't really need rear suspension for XC riding unless you have back problems. Last years Raleigh Mojave 8.0 was one of the best bikes you could get for $600.  I would also recommend a Raleigh 29er for XC riding.

don't know what in order what are the best.. but most common mountain bike brands are like, norco, specialized, brodie, kona, trek

Trek is the #1 top quality brand name in America. They are usually going head to head with Specialized, #2.

Gary Fisher if you like something 'different' with some wild paint schemes.

Cannondale if you want a larger, stiffer, more expensive frame handmade in the USA, but they don't start cheap.
