Riding on the strength of Shingi Masakadza’s record 6-wicket haul, the Mountaineers claimed a comprehensive 30-run victory over the Matabeleland Tuskers, in their match during the ongoing Domestic Twenty20 Competition in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, played on December 9 at
the Mutare Sports Club.
The Mountaineers won the toss and chose to bat, but were unable to gain much of an upper-hand at first, hampered as they were by the Tuskers’ http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Njabulo-Ncube-c79773 (3-0-16-2), and Moeen Ali (3-0-20-2).
Only five batsmen in total managed to register double-digit scores, while the rest gave their wickets away cheaply. Opener Mark Pettini top-scored for the team with 31, and his 29-run third-wicket partnership with Kevin Kasuza (18), followed by a 38-run
stand with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/T-Maruma-c2628 (28), were the highlights of the team’s innings.
Top-order batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kudzai-Sauramba-c1817 (6).
Shingi Masakadza (16) and Natsai M’shangwe (13) attempted to inject some spirit into their team’s innings, but their efforts did not amount to much. By the end of 20 overs, with 9 wickets down, the Mountaineers posted a middling total of 135.
However, the team made up for it with their bowling performance. Shingi Masakadza (4-0-16-6) registered his career-best domestic T20 figures, and the fifth best performance in all T20 cricket, while Tendai Chatara (3-0-12-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GA-Lamb-c1450 (4-0-19-1) chipped
in with supporting performances.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moeen-Ali-c1990 (1) were both lacklustre, as was number four
batsman Brian Chari (0).
S Masakadza did not give the lower order a chance to stage a comeback, and the 19th over saw him sending Querl (5), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CB-Mpofu-c1219 (0), Ncube (0), and Godwill Mamhiyo (0) back to the pavilion. The Tuskers eventually finished all out at 105, and the
Mountaineers went on to claim victory by a margin of 30 runs.
