Mountjoy Dove, the youngest contestant wins the Bags/Sis 500 Final at Yarmouth
Ron Tanner’s two-year-old b***h, Mountjoy Dove, posted her second victory of the season by winning the Grade A3 Bags/Sis 500 Final at Yarmouth on 19th
December.
Her racing experience since August, 2011, ranges from Grade D1 to Grade A3 races. She has won twice, came second thrice and finished third once.
It was just one race in which she was sent as a 6 to 4 favourite, on 2nd October, 2011, in a Grade A5 race at Hove. Mountjoy Dove finished sixth in that race with B Collins’s Rising Cloda finishing the race first and claiming the prize money of
£119.
Ever since that defeat, she has not been sent as a favourite for any other races. Her last five races have been at Yarmouth, where she landed her two career victories.
Mountjoy Dove’s first win came in the 4th Leg of the Grade A4 Pick 6 Jackpot on 26th November, a race that had to be run over a distance of 462 metres. She claimed £49 by reaching the finish line in 28.55 seconds.
The b***h, out of Droopys Scolari and Star Of Dromin, born in April 2010, forced the competition behind by 1 ¼ lengths.
Sky Classic was able to secure the second position by covering the track distance in 28.65 seconds. She was followed by Sunset Kid, who was on the other side of the wire in 29.10 seconds. The 9 to 4 favourite for the race, Ridgedale Buzz, had to settle for
the fourth position, covering the distance in 29.17 seconds.
In the Bag/Sis 500 Final on 19th December, Mountjoy Dove’s victory was overwhelming for her connections, considering she was the youngest hound among the contestants.
Bodell Express was sent as the 7 to 2 favourite, but finished fourth, 3¼ lengths behind the winner, clocking 30.21 seconds.
The winner, awarded with the £500 prize money, was the 4 to 1, Mountjoy Dove, who finished racing in 29.89 seconds, leaving the runner up of the race, White Princess, behind by 1 ¾ lengths.
J Green trained Mullpark Jet made it to the fifth position and was followed by Ballinprior King, trained by F Carter, who managed the sixth position.
