Mourinho Doubtful Over Upcoming El Clasico
Jose Mourinho admitted that he was unsure as to how his young squad would handle their first Clasico of the season, which will take place this Monday. The Portuguese manager was uncertain how the young Real Madrid side would handle their first visit to Barcelona.
Mourinho will make his first visit to Barcelona since taking over Real Madrid during the summer. Since then, the Special One has signed some very exciting player, such as Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria.
The players have led Real Madrid to the top of the La Liga, 12 matches into the season. They are currently one point ahead of Barcelona, with the third place Villarreal an astonishing eight points behind the league leaders.
However, the real challenge will come at Camp Nou on Monday as the result of the Clasico will have a big say in who claims the Spanish championship. This just goes to show the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona in the Spanish league.
Jose Mourinho is well aware of the pressure surrounding the Clasico, having previously been in the Barcelona coaching staff. Mourinho was a part of the coaching staff under Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal at Barcelona and has learnt a lot from his time
there.
The Portuguese coach claimed that Monday’s fixture could present a new challenge for his inexperienced, but brilliant stars. He was confident that they could cope with it but did not comment on the outcome.
The former Chelsea manager said while speaking to reporters, “You never know how the team will react. Physically we are fine and know what to do, but we face a team that has had a lot of time working together and we have only had a few months.”
Mourinho insisted that preparation was essential in the match against Barcelona, and he insisted that his team would be prepared for anything. He commented,
“But, in any case, we must be prepared for any eventuality.”
Mourinho is considered one of the best managers in the world, despite being so young. He has had great success in his short coaching career, he is known for building strong teams, most notably Chelsea and Inter Milan.
He won the treble in his first and last season at Inter, the most famous incident at his time at Milan was when his side overcame Barcelona in the Champions League. They eventually went on to claim the European Cup, among other things.
The Portuguese has duplicated his success at Madrid and has done it with style. He said,
“It's very important the coach has a clear idea of what he wants: how to play, how to work each day. It is one thing to admire someone but something else to copy them.”
He added, “You must learn from people who have been successful while always keeping your own personality. It is our responsibility to put on a great game - the coaches, the players and the referee. We have to give the world a super game.”
