The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan boss has stressed that a pre-season friendly defeat at the hands of a weaker side holds no importance to him.
Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho is unmoved in wake of his side’s defeat at the hands of Benfica on Friday.
The two clubs locked horns at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon on July 27th, in the Eusebio Cup. The commemorative fixture was played to pay tribute to one of the greatest Portuguese players of all time, Eusebio, who was present to grace the occasion.
The match was much-anticipated by the hosts; however, the visitors hardly appeared to have come to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 with a motive to win.
The Benfiquistas were simply impressive throughout the match, as they crushed Los Merengues with a final score of 5-2.
The heavily contested encounter was massively competitive from start to finish and at the half-time break, the scores were tied at 2-2, with no clear winner in sight.
However, with the Glorioso scoring three more goals in the second half, it was apparent that the newly crowned champions of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 had no chance against the Portuguese team.
As a result, the Madrid boss took out his time to insist that he had not given any priority to the fixture. It may appear to be a case of sour grapes, however, one cannot vividly judge a statement given by the ‘Special One’.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss also congratulated the winning side, but warned them against complacency in the future.
While talking to reporters, the 49-year-old was quoted as saying:
“There is no such thing as heavy defeats in friendly matches. We knew the risk we were taking. Benfica did not wish to test new things, they played seriously. I hope this victory will boost their morale, but in a balanced way. Because if they give too much
importance to this result, it could be negative for them.”
"I hope to return here during the season, but to play an official match, and to win when winning matters."
Real Madrid are yet to play a few pre-season friendly matches before they can kick-off the new season’s campaign.
