The Special One has made an interesting revelation as he has claimed that finishing second in the group stages of the Champions League has always proved to be a good thing for his side.
Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho has taken out time to suggest that the last two times he lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy, his side finished the group stage of the prestigious tournament with second place.
Consequently, the Portuguese mentor is ready to the current situation of Los Blancos in the competition as a good omen. He expressed that the last two times he became champion of Europe, his side could not manage to go into the knock out stages as winners
of their group.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 boss is the third manager in the history of the beautiful sport to have won the European title with two different clubs.
The first time Mourinho was able to win the coveted competition, it was with Portuguese outfit Porto. The feat was nothing short of miraculous as his club at that time was hardly considered a contender to be European champion.
His second triumph came with Italian Serie A giants, Inter Milan. Mourinho led the Nerrazurri to a Champions League triumph after almost 40 years.
While talking to Real Madrid’s official website, the 49-year-old was quoted as saying:
"On two occasions I finished second in the group stage, I won the Champions League. I finished behind Real Madrid with Porto and we won, and with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 and won. The other times I finished first, I never won the competition. My
experience proves that it doesn't mean so much.”
"I think the teams that finished first did well, but after that they are waiting for an opponent who, in principle, are easier for them to overcome, only to discover that they get Real Madrid in the draw."
Jose Mourinho is the only manager in the history of the sport to have won the Portuguese, English, Italian and Spanish domestic leagues. He is the only head coach to have been a champion of four different European clubs.
